About soaring weather in Italy
Italian flying is dominated by terrain interactions a global model cannot see. Bassano, Feltre, Castelluccio, the Aosta valley, Monte Cucco and the Sicilian thermal sites all live inside complex orography where 4 km against 25 km resolution is the difference between a useful forecast and a guess.
Mainland Italy plus the major islands is roughly Spain-sized for compute. Convek will benchmark the country before deciding whether mainland and the islands stay in one rectangle or split into separate domains. Either way, the API region code stays simple from a developer's perspective.
Day-window and sounding labels would use Europe/Rome. Active-day flying in southern Italy and Sicily can run well into October, so the freshness contract for Italy matters more than for higher-latitude countries that have a sharper season.
