Terms of Service
Last updated: 15 April 2026
These terms govern your use of the Convek API, website, and related services (“the Service”). By creating an account or using the API, you agree to these terms.
1. The Service
Convek provides soaring weather forecast data via a RESTful API. This includes thermal strength, cloudbase, convergence, soaring height, and related fields derived from numerical weather prediction models.
2. Accounts & API Keys
- You must provide a valid email address to create an account.
- You are responsible for keeping your API keys secure. Do not share them publicly or embed them in client-side code.
- We may revoke API keys or suspend accounts that violate these terms.
- Maximum of 5 active API keys per account.
3. Data Accuracy Disclaimer
This is the most important section. Please read it carefully.
- Convek forecasts are model-derived estimates, not observations or measurements. They are generated by running numerical weather prediction models (WRF) on publicly available input data (GFS, ICON).
- Forecasts can be wrong. Thermal strength, cloudbase, wind, and all other fields are predictions - not guarantees.
- Convek data is not certified aviation weather. It is not a substitute for official weather briefings, METARs, TAFs, NOTAMs, or any other official aviation weather products.
- Do not use Convek data as the sole basis for flight decisions. Always cross-check with official aviation weather sources, local observations, site briefings, and your own judgement.
- Convek is an informational aid only. It may be incomplete, stale, delayed, or unavailable at the moment you look at it.
- Convek provides data “as is” with no warranty of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for any particular purpose.
4. Your Responsibilities
- You are responsible for deciding whether and how to use the Service.
- You must independently verify conditions before any flight or other safety-relevant activity.
- You must not use the Service as the sole basis for launch, dispatch, route clearance, task setting, or any other safety-critical decision.
- You must not hide forecast age, stale-data warnings, outage states, or uncertainty when displaying Convek data to end users.
5. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Convek and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to:
- Decisions made based on forecast data (including flight decisions)
- Inaccurate, delayed, or missing forecast data
- Service downtime or interruptions
- Loss of revenue, data, or business opportunity
You assume all risk associated with using Convek data. This includes, without limitation, all risks associated with aviation and soaring activities.
6. Acceptable Use
- Do not use the API for safety-of-life systems without an independent verification layer.
- Do not use the Service to make automated go/no-go decisions without independent human review.
- Do not exceed your plan's rate limits. Excessive abuse may result in throttling or suspension.
- Do not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or redistribute raw model data.
- Do not use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
7. Redistribution
If you build applications that display Convek data to end users, you must:
- Not present the data as certified aviation weather, official meteorological guidance, or a guarantee of conditions.
- Show a clear end-user disclaimer that the data is model-derived forecast guidance and must not be used as the sole basis for flight or safety-critical decisions.
- Preserve source, timestamp, and stale-data context where your product displays forecast output.
- Comply with the Data License terms.
8. Billing & Subscriptions
- Free tier: no payment required, subject to daily request limits.
- Paid tiers: billed monthly or annually via Stripe. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time.
- Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact us at hello@convek.dev.
9. Indemnity
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Convek and its operators against claims, losses, liabilities, and costs arising from your use of the Service, your redistribution of Convek data, or your breach of these terms.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms. You may delete your account at any time via the dashboard or by contacting us.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the website. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
